Apple Overtakes Microsoft as World's Most Valuable Company

Apple has regained its position as the world’s most valuable company, surpassing Microsoft with a market value of $3.25 trillion. The iPhone maker’s stock rose 2% Wednesday following its highly anticipated AI announcements at this week’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

The leadership change comes after five months of Microsoft’s lead, fueled by its rapid AI investment through products like Copilot. Apple’s just-announced “Apple Intelligence” platform – with major Siri improvements and greater device integration – appears to have convinced investors of its vision for AI.

Though Apple’s shares have risen 10% this year, they remain behind Microsoft’s 16% advance and Alphabet’s 28% gain. AI processor maker Nvidia, which briefly led Apple last week, is still on its amazing 144% run in 2024.

The move is emblematic of the way AI has emerged as the epicenter of competition between technology titans for supremacy and how Apple now showcases its competitive mettle in the age of AI without deviating from its high-end consumer base.
