Samsung Expands Local Production: Laptops May Join ‘Made in India’ Portfolio

New Delhi: 18 August 2025

Samsung is beginning to manufacture laptops locally in India as part of its “Make in India” campaign. In addition to producing Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, the company’s Greater Noida plant will shortly start producing laptops. Following a recent meeting between Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Samsung officials from Southwest Asia, the business reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering India’s domestic manufacturing sector. Vaishnaw underlined that local skill and creativity are driving Samsung’s expansion of production of cutting-edge technology gadgets in India.

Founded in 1996 in India, Samsung now operates the second-largest mobile manufacturing facility in the world. It has a long history in the electronics industry and is now India’s second-largest supplier of handsets, behind Apple. In order to continue growing its business, the decision to make laptops domestically is anticipated to be a significant turning point. Nevertheless, Samsung has not yet disclosed which laptop models will be produced in India or formally confirmed its manufacturing roadmap.

If rolled out, this step could bring a significant shift in India’s laptop market, which is currently led by brands like HP, Dell, and Lenovo. Samsung’s Galaxy Book series, despite offering strong features, has yet to establish a major share in the Indian market. Local manufacturing could help Samsung lower costs, increase competitiveness, and gain traction among consumers. The decision also complements India’s production-linked initiatives, strengthening Samsung’s long-term growth strategy in the country’s fast-growing electronics industry.
