OTT Platforms Under Fire: Govt Acts Against Vulgarity Online

New Delhi,25 July 25

Actor and BJP Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan has strongly supported the central government’s recent move to ban 25 OTT platforms for showcasing content described as “pornographic in nature.” The decision, taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is aimed at curbing the rise of obscene and vulgar content on digital streaming platforms. Kishan, who is known for his work in both Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema, welcomed the move, stating that it is a necessary step to protect the cultural and moral fabric of the nation.

He underlined that, in the name of creative freedom, a number of OTT platforms, both licensed and unlicensed, were increasingly manufacturing and disseminating soft porn and obscene content, so transgressing ethical bounds. In his Hindi-language remarks, he pointed out that such content had a detrimental effect on young viewers and Indian society at large in addition to warping the definition of entertainment.

“There is a Laxman Rekha (moral boundary) in every field, including entertainment. While creativity and storytelling should be encouraged, it must not be done at the expense of our cultural values,” he said.
Ravi Kishan praised the government for taking bold action at a time when digital content is largely unregulated and accessible to all age groups. He added that this ban sends a strong message to content creators that freedom of expression should come with responsibility. He further urged OTT platforms to focus on quality storytelling and meaningful cinema that reflects the ethos of Indian society, rather than chasing views through sensationalism and obscenity.

The government’s action has triggered debate across the entertainment industry, with some praising the move as necessary, while others raise concerns over censorship and artistic freedom. Nonetheless, Ravi Kishan remains firm that such regulation is crucial for maintaining the dignity and values of Indian culture.
