Nobel Peace Prize Committee recognises genuine peacemakers while dismissing Trump’s repeated claims to end global conflicts, from Russia–Ukraine to India–Pakistan, highlighting merit over publicity and political theatrics.
New Delhi, October 11, 2025:
Renowned peace activist and humanitarian Dr. K.A. Paul praised the Nobel Peace Prize Committee on Saturday for awarding the prize to a deserving individual while rejecting former U.S. President Donald Trump’s self-promotional bid. Dr. Paul noted that Trump’s repeated claims to resolve major conflicts—including the Russia–Ukraine war and India–Pakistan tensions—were unsubstantiated and largely symbolic.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Dr. Paul outlined multiple reasons why Trump was not a suitable candidate and applauded the committee for prioritising genuine efforts that advance global peace, human dignity, and reconciliation.
“The Nobel Peace Prize should honour individuals who work selflessly for world harmony, not those seeking recognition through political theatre or self-promotion,” Dr. Paul said. “The committee’s decision reflects integrity, rewarding a true peacemaker rather than falling for repeated publicity-driven claims.”
Dr. Paul, himself nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times (2003, 2005, 2006) by 17 countries but who declined to accept it, emphasized that the award should recognise sustained efforts toward peace rather than personal ambition or media campaigns.
Key Reasons Trump Was Overlooked for the Nobel Peace Prize:
- Self-Promotion Over Genuine Merit: Unlike authentic peacemakers nominated by others, Trump actively campaigned for the prize, publicly claiming he “deserved it.” The committee rightly dismissed this approach.
- Pressuring Global Leaders: Reports suggest Trump lobbied world leaders, including prime ministers and presidents, to support his nomination, politicising the award. The committee recognised and rejected this manipulation.
- Empty Promises on Global Conflicts: Trump claimed he could end the Russia–Ukraine war “within an hour” and mediate India–Pakistan tensions. Months later, the conflicts persisted, showing rhetoric without results.
- Escalating Middle East Tensions: Military interventions and targeted killings under Trump heightened regional instability, contrasting with the principles of peace and conflict de-escalation.
- Support for Gaza Blockade: Trump backed Israel’s blockade of Gaza, which disrupted basic necessities for over a million civilians. The committee prioritised human rights and dignity over harmful policies.
- Proposal to Relocate Palestinians: Suggestions to resettle millions of Palestinians in neighbouring countries were destabilising and violated human rights, further undermining Trump’s credibility as a peacemaker.
- Global Trade and Military Tensions: Aggressive trade wars and heightened global tensions contradicted the values of peace and unity. The committee chose a recipient who promotes collaboration, not division.
Concluding his statement, Dr. Paul said, “The Nobel Peace Prize Committee has sent a strong message by recognising a true advocate for peace and rejecting Trump’s propaganda. True peacemakers are defined by actions and compassion, not words or power. I salute the committee’s wisdom and integrity.”
