Turns out, it’s not just the coffee that’s brewing in hybrid workplaces — it’s chemistry too. While deadlines, pitch decks, and team huddles rule the daytime grind, the after-hours Slack emojis and lingering Zoom stares are hinting at something else entirely: a quiet boom in corporate romance.
Call them “Corporate Affairs 2.0” — consensual, covert, and coded in emojis. Welcome to the era where “co-working from home” sometimes leads to “more than just collaboration.”
From Conference Rooms to Chemistry
Gone are the days of stolen glances near the watercooler. Today, the new age workplace romance begins in shared Google Docs and DMs, with hybrid work offering just the right mix of professional distance and digital intimacy.
According to a July 2025 Forbes-Zety survey , a whopping 86% of employees globally admitted to experiencing romantic or flirtatious behavior in remote or hybrid work settings — a number that would’ve seemed outrageous a decade ago.
“Slack became the new Tinder during lockdown,” jokes a Mumbai-based designer , who met her now-boyfriend while working remotely for a creative agency. “We started with late-night design fixes and ended up in each other’s playlists.”

- 71% of Indian professionals say flexible work improves overall job satisfaction, indirectly giving workplace romances more breathing space.
- 17% of workers in a SHRM survey admitted to currently dating someone at work — the number is expectedly under-reported due to stigma.
“Romance hasn’t died, it’s just moved to private Zoom calls,” says Dr. Ayesha Kapoor, a digital workplace psychologist . “Hybrid setups intensify emotional vulnerability and blur the line between colleague and companion.”
