FIR filed under Section 69 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a woman’s complaint of deceit, emotional abuse, and physical violence over a five‑year relationship
8 July 2025, New Delhi
Indian cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fast bowler Yash Dayal has been booked by the Ghaziabad police following allegations of sexual exploitation, emotional abuse, and cheating. The complaint was filed by a Ghaziabad-based woman who claims to have been in a long-term relationship with the cricketer and accuses him of deceit and abuse over nearly five years.
In one of the first high-profile cases under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an FIR has been registered against cricketer Yash Dayal at Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad. The case has been filed under Section 69 of the BNS, which pertains to sexual relations obtained through false promises such as deceitful assurances of marriage.
Allegations Against the Cricketer
According to the complaint, the woman alleges that her relationship with Dayal began around late 2019 or early 2020. Over the years, she claims, he gained her trust by promising marriage, introducing her to his family as his fiancée, and even taking her on trips to cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, Prayagraj, and Ooty.
She further alleges that despite his assurances, Dayal was simultaneously involved with multiple women and eventually became emotionally manipulative and physically abusive when confronted. The complainant has reportedly provided supporting evidence, including call records, chat screenshots, and photographs, as part of her case.
Delay in Action Prompted Direct Complaint to CM Portal
Initial attempts to file a complaint through the Women’s Helpline (181) on June 14 reportedly saw no follow-up action. Frustrated, the woman escalated her plea to the Chief Minister’s grievance redressal portal on June 21. After further inquiry and the submission of evidence, police moved forward with formal charges on July 7.
FIR Details and Legal Proceedings
The FIR includes charges under Section 69 of the BNS, along with other applicable sections for cheating, mental harassment, and physical assault. The police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that the complainant will undergo a medical examination as part of due process. A notice has been issued to Yash Dayal, although he has not yet responded publicly.
Speaking on the matter, Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Priyadarshi confirmed that legal action will proceed in accordance with the evidence and legal framework.
Public Impact and Professional Fallout
The case has sparked public conversation, given Dayal’s rising profile in Indian cricket. He played a pivotal role in RCB’s IPL 2025 campaign and was being considered for inclusion in future national squads.
Legal experts note that this case could become a defining moment in how personal relationships and abuse of trust are handled in Indian law, especially under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
