SHAHEED DWEEP: Ten-year-old Ira Aditya Raut has achieved six world records in scuba diving in a single day, marking a notable milestone in her young sporting journey. A Class V student at Naval Children School in Karwar, Karnataka, Ira achieved the feats at Shaheed Dweep in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

At the age of 10 years, 17 hours and 35 minutes, she also earned the distinction of becoming the world’s youngest qualified scuba diver, according to the records reported for the achievement.

The daughter of Indian Navy officers Commander Sneh Budakoti and Commander Aditya Raut completed the record-setting activities at the Dive Tribe Centre. Scuba Schools International (SSI) certified her diving qualification, while Arvinder Singh Bhatti of the International Book of Records adjudicated and verified the six records.

Young Diver Sets Multiple Underwater Records

Ira demonstrated her skills across several scuba diving challenges. These included displaying the highest number of scuba diving hand signals in one minute, identifying the highest number of pieces of diving equipment underwater and covering the greatest distance underwater in one minute.

She achieved all three records in the category for participants below the teenage age group.

She also set a record for identifying the highest number of marine animal species while scuba diving. Together with her youngest-qualified-diver achievement and her record for setting six records in a single day, these feats brought her total to six.

Ira Wants to Explore the Underwater World Further

Speaking about the achievement, Ira said, “Scuba diving underwater has been an exciting experience for me. I am happy that I could set these records at such a young age. I want to continue learning new things and exploring the underwater world more closely.”

Originally from Buldhana district in Maharashtra, Ira is the granddaughter of retired Commander Ashok Rajaram Raut. Her parents’ service in the Indian Navy has helped inspire her interest in challenging activities.

At just 10, Indian girl Ira Aditya Raut creates history by setting six world records in a single day. The Karnataka-based student also earns the title of the world’s youngest qualified scuba diver during her underwater adventure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
