Students from Across India Recreate Parliamentary Proceedings and Debate Key National Issues
New Delhi: The two-day Delhi Student Parliament, organised on July 19 and 20 at the NDMC Convention Centre on Sansad Marg, brought together students from across India to gain firsthand experience of parliamentary democracy through simulated legislative proceedings. Participants took on the roles of Members of Parliament, ministers, opposition leaders, and the Speaker, engaging in meaningful debates on a wide range of contemporary national issues.
The deliberations covered a wide spectrum of issues, including education, employment, women’s empowerment, social justice, national security, the economy, environmental conservation, and democratic values. Students representing both the ruling party and the opposition presented well-reasoned arguments supported by facts, while observing parliamentary procedures with discipline and decorum.
The inaugural session featured Dr. Bhargav Mallappa as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasised that democracy grows stronger when young people embrace constitutional values, engage in meaningful dialogue, and practise responsible leadership. He noted that initiatives such as the Delhi Student Parliament help shape informed, responsible citizens and future leaders.
Dr. Binod Kumar Bind, Member of Parliament from Bhadohi, encouraged participants to actively engage with democratic institutions, stating that the future of democracy rests in the hands of aware and responsible youth who understand both their rights and responsibilities.
Satyendra Bari, Vice Chairperson of the OBC Commission, highlighted the significance of inclusive democracy, saying that equal representation and opportunities for every section of society are essential to strengthening democratic institutions.
Dheeraj Sharma, National Youth President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), urged students to embrace dialogue, integrity, and visionary leadership in contributing to a stronger and more progressive India.
The sessions were moderated by Sreejata Ghos, who encouraged open and respectful discussions while ensuring adherence to parliamentary traditions. Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh appealed to the media to showcase the event across print, digital, television, photography, video, and social media platforms so that the voices of participating students could reach a wider audience.
Organised under the leadership of President Vishal Mishra, the Student Parliament was appreciated for its disciplined conduct, effective coordination, and smooth execution. The initiative provided students from across the country with an opportunity to understand parliamentary functioning, develop leadership qualities, strengthen critical thinking, and engage with democratic processes in a practical setting.
The valedictory session on July 20 was attended by Abhay Singh, MLA from Gosaiganj Assembly Constituency in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. He encouraged participants to remain committed to constitutional values and highlighted the importance of youth participation in strengthening democracy.
The organising committee, including Vice President Praveen Rawat, General Secretary Kaushiki Tripathi, Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh, and members of the core committee—Vidhi, Aarushi Tiwari, Prakhar Singh, Shalini, Sakshi, and other volunteers—played a key role in ensuring the success of the event.
The Delhi Student Parliament concluded with the message that democracy extends beyond Parliament and is strengthened through informed dialogue, active participation, and responsible citizenship. The enthusiasm, discipline, and thoughtful engagement displayed by students from across India reflected the growing commitment of the country’s youth towards democratic leadership and nation-building.
