In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives, including that of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife, Himanshi Narwal, has emerged as a voice of compassion and unity. Despite her personal tragedy, Himanshi has appealed to the nation to refrain from directing anger towards Muslims and Kashmiris, emphasizing the need for peace and justice.
“We don’t want people going against Muslims or Kashmiris. We want peace and only peace. Of course, we want justice,” Himanshi stated during a press interaction in Karnal, Haryana, where her husband’s funeral was held with full military honors .
The couple had married on April 16 and were on their honeymoon in Pahalgam when the attack occurred on April 22. While they were enjoying a snack in the Baisaran Valley, militants opened fire, killing Vinay on the spot.
The attack, which targeted tourists based on their religious identity, has been widely condemned across India and internationally. However, it has also led to incidents of backlash against Muslim and Kashmiri communities in various parts of the country.
Himanshi’s plea for unity has resonated with many, including Lalita Ramdas, wife of former Navy Chief Admiral L. Ramdas. In an open letter, Lalita praised Himanshi’s courage and composure, stating, “You are the perfect Fauji wife, true to the spirit of the service, the constitution, and to our secular values.”
