Abhishek Banerjee says He was Close to Leaving ‘Stolen’ During Disagreement with the Producer

Actor Discusses Overflowing Conflits and emotional uneasiness Before Production Phase

Actor Abhishek Banerjee who is being praised for his intense performance in the thriller ‘Stolen’, has opened up about the shocking moments during the making of the film. In a recent interview, the actor explained he came very close to leaving the project after a number of heated disputes with the movies producer.

Abhishek explained, he loved the script and his character from the get go, but felt his character was an emotionally layered role deserving of more reckoning. “I’m the kind of actor who can only deliver truthfully when I’m emotionally invested in the character,” he explained. “If I can’t connect with the role internally, I know I won’t be able to do justice to it.”

Apart from playing the lead role, Banerjee also served as the executive producer for the film. He revealed that the initial stages of production were marked by creative disagreements with producer Gautam Dhingra. “We had several heated arguments,” he admitted. “I wanted every small detail sorted before the camera rolled not to create hurdles, but to ensure we made a great film.”

Eventually, Gautam Dhingra travelled to Delhi to meet Abhishek in person. The two engaged in a lengthy discussion, during which the producer acknowledged Banerjee’s concerns and worked toward solutions. This reassured the actor and convinced him to continue with the film.

“It was never about ego it was about the commitment to good cinema,” Banerjee said. “When creative minds have honest conversations, that’s when the best work emerges. I’m grateful Gautam understood my perspective and helped take the film in a stronger direction.”

Abhishek added that filming began just two days after their conversation, and the result of that collaboration is now being well-received by audiences.

Directed by Karan Tejpal, ‘Stolen’ features Abhishek Banerjee, Shubham Vardhan, Mia Melzar, and Harish Khanna in pivotal roles. The thriller drama is currently streaming on Prime Video.
