Underwear is Mandatory! Delta airlines in it’s new dress code memo

New Delhi: 18th September 2024
Delta Air Lines recently sent a firm reminder to its current and prospective flight attendants, making it clear that wearing underwear is not optional. In a newly released memo, the airline outlined a comprehensive set of grooming and attire standards, detailing what is expected during interviews, training, and throughout one’s career. Among these requirements, the memo emphasized the importance of “proper undergarments,” which are mandatory, but must remain invisible at all times.
These appearance guidelines extend far beyond undergarments, addressing everything from hair and jewelry to overall presentation. Delta made it clear that flight attendants must embody professionalism and maintain a well-groomed look at all times, as they are the face of the airline. The memo highlighted that flight attendants not only represent Delta but play a key role in creating a positive and memorable experience for passengers. According to the airline, this customer service journey starts the moment the uniform is put on. Also read: Payal Malik Addresses Online Harassment with Defamation Suit
In keeping with its high standards, Delta laid out specific rules for appearance:
- Hair must be naturally colored, with bold highlights or artificial shades not allowed. Long hair should be pulled back and secured above the shoulders, and if it falls below mid-back, it must be pinned up.
- Eyelashes should appear natural, and nails are to be kept simple—neon colors, multi-tones, or glitter are strictly prohibited.
- Tattoos must remain covered, and bandages are not an acceptable method for concealment.
- Only one nose piercing is permitted, with stud options limited to gold, silver, white pearl, or clear diamond-like styles.
- As for earrings, only two per ear are allowed, and they must be smaller than a dime, with hoops forbidden.
- Body piercings, other than a nose piercing, must remain hidden.

Delta also set clear expectations regarding attire. Dresses and skirts must reach at least knee length, and athletic shoes are not allowed. Instead, flight attendants must opt for closed-toe flats, heels, or sling-back shoes. Men in uniform are required to wear a tie paired with a button-collared dress shirt.
