Two Indian students killed in Ireland car crash; two others hospitalized

A horrible road traffic accident in County Carlow, southern Ireland, claimed the lives of two Indian students, while two others are in a hospital with serious injuries. As per the Irish police (Gardai), early Friday morning, the black Audi A6 veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Graiguenaspiddoge.

The 2 deceased have been identified as Mr. Cherekuri Suresh Chowdary and Mr. Chithoori Bhargav, who were pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency personnel. The other 2 victims traveling in the vehicle, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were rushed to St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious injuries, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Indian Embassy Expresses Condolences

The Indian Embassy in Dublin expressed condolences via a statement on social media given subsequent to the tragedy.

“The Embassy of India in Dublin expresses its deepest condolences on the sad demise of two Indian nationals, Mr. Cherekuri Suresh Chowdary and Mr. Chithoori Bhargav, due to an unfortunate car crash in Co.Carlow,”.
The Embassy has said they are in contact with the deceased’s families and that assistance is being rendered to the injured victims.

Local Authorities and Community Mourn the Loss

Superintendent Anthony Farrell of Carlow Garda Station states that the car was traveling from the Mount Leinster area towards Fenagh and on to Carlow town.
Those in mourning for the four young men in car mustered the most heartfelt sympathies, for the community, in general, needs consolation at this time,” he expressed. Being South East Technological University (SETU) graduates, they had very recently returned back to Carlow town and started a flat-sharing arrangement. One of them was employed at MSD, a local pharma company.

Fundraising Efforts for Funeral Expenses

A fundraising effort was organized soon after the accident to assist the families with funeral expenses and other related expenses. The fundraising event, organized by Venkat Vuppala, raised over €25,000 in less than a day.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Bhargav Chitturi and Suresh Cherukuri. In this challenging period, we aim to unite in support of their families to help cover funeral costs and other financial challenges they may encounter,” read the fundraiser’s message.

Authorities emphasized respect for privacy. Superintendent Farrell also pointed out images from the accident circulating on social media. “Gardaí are aware of a number of images being posted online following the collision. These things would not help the investigation, and more importantly, are causing distress to grieving families. We urge people to take these images down immediately,” he said.

Irish PM Responds:

Speaking from Cork, Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Micheal Martin expressed shock at the tragic accident and offered condolences to the families and the affected community.
