At the 43rd India International Trade Fair being held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, products made by the Kalyani Self-Help Group from Pal village, Jodhpur, have impressed visitors and showcased women’s empowerment.
Women visitors to the fair are particularly stopping by the group’s stall to interact with the women and learn about their journey of becoming self-reliant through skill development. People are fascinated by their stories of hard work, determination, and how they have created employment opportunities for thousands.
These women shared that they have truly turned the saying “from rags to riches” into reality through their hard work, vision, and dedication in various fields.
Jodhpuri Quilts – A Favourite for Lightness and Warmth
Jodhpuri quilts are getting a lot of attention at the Rajasthan Pavilion, with customers particularly drawn to their light weight, softness, and warmth. Abdul Rauf, the stall operator, explained that quilt-making is a traditional family business passed down through generations.
Rauf shared that high-quality, pure cotton is used to make the quilts, which are also designed in modern and traditional Rajasthani patterns, making them highly popular with customers. The quilts come in various shapes and sizes, with some featuring beautiful floral designs and deep colors, as well as decorative Banarasi zari borders.
Additionally, Rajasthan’s famous “Sanganeri Hand Block Print” is used to create Jodhpuri double-bed quilts, which have been a big hit among visitors.
Traditional Bandhej Sarees and Jewelry Grab Attention
Inside the Rajasthan Pavilion, women were seen buying sarees and dupattas in large numbers. Anju, from Kailasar village in Churu district, shared that Rajasthan’s Bandhej sarees and dupattas are highly popular among women. Mobita, from Dabla village in Bundi district, said that her creations made from lakh (lac) to produce bangles, bracelets, and necklaces have also been selling well.
