Chouhan: “Worshipping Daughters is My Deep Conviction”
25 October 2023 , Bhopal ( Madhya Pradesh)
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan strongly criticized Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s characterization of ‘Kanya Pujan’ as ‘natak-nautanki’ (drama) and called upon Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to clarify the Congress’s stance on the matter.
In a statement to news agency ANI, Chouhan remarked, “When the entire nation was engaging in ‘Kanya Pujan’ yesterday, Digvijaya Singh ji described it as ‘natak-nautanki.’ People like you seem to be unwilling to appreciate the reverence shown to women. I urge Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi to clarify whether they consider the worship of our daughters as mere drama. The Congress needs to make its position clear.”
Chouhan also added, “Digvijay Singh ji, by opposing Sanatana Dharma and myself, you have stooped to such a low level that you are protesting against the honoring of our daughters. This is an emotional matter for me, a matter of conscience. I hold daughters in high regard and will continue to do so.”
Notably, during a press conference in Bhopal on Monday, Digvijaya Singh had commented, “I have not witnessed anyone who engages in more drama than the Chief Minister (Madhya Pradesh). Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi now feels threatened by him.”
Singh made this statement in response to Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s participation in Kanya Pujan at the Chief Minister’s House on the last day of Navratri. During the event, Chouhan showered flower petals on girls, washed their feet, served them food, and personally fed them.
