Prime Minister Modi promises Rs 2 lakh to the families of those killed in the Wayanad landslide, while Rahul Gandhi urges UDF members to assist in rescue efforts.
On Tuesday morning in Kerala’s Wayanad district, steep regions close to Meppadi were devastated by severe landslides.

The horrific deaths brought about by landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, on Tuesday brought Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tears. He declared that the families of the deceased would receive Rs 2 lakh in compensation, while the injured would receive Rs 50,000. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his pain over the disaster and urged Union Ministers and UDF members to actively assist with the rescue efforts.
Regarding the terrible landslides in Wayanad, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has spoken with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congressman Rahul Gandhi. The Center will continue to receive full support and help from the Prime Minister Modi in the ongoing relief activities. Rahul Gandhi has asked CM Vijayan and the Wayanad District Collector to set up a control room, make sure that all agencies are effectively coordinated, and notify them if any further support is needed for the relief efforts.
Severe landslides that slammed the mountainous areas around Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of at least nineteen persons, including an infant. It’s believed that a few more persons are stuck.

Additionally, he urged the state’s United Democratic Front (UDF) to assist the administration with the relief and rescue operations. Gandhi also pledged to meet with Union Ministers to make sure Wayanad gets all the support it needs.
All government ministries are actively taking part in search and rescue efforts following the landslides, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Teams from the Kerala State disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent to the area, where it is thought that hundreds of people are stuck. Additional support is being provided by two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps and another NDRF unit. Meanwhile, the ongoing downpour and the collapse of a bridge that linked to the affected hamlet have made rescue efforts very difficult.
At least 24 dead have been transported to different hospitals, while the injured are receiving medical attention, according to Kerala Minister Veena George, who provided reporters with an update on the situation. “It is regrettable that Wayanad experienced significant landslides this morning at approximately three in the morning. As we look for every way to preserve lives, rescue efforts are still underway, George said. “Many injured people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, and we have received 24 bodies so far.”
Control rooms have been built in the police and health departments. George stated, “The Chief Minister is personally supervising the state’s circumstances and giving directives. “We have also sent more medications to Wayanad.”
Referring to Kerala as their “brother state,” the chief minister of Tamil Nadu declared on X that his government is ready to provide any personnel or logistical support needed during this situation.

The chief minister of Tamil Nadu sent his sincere condolences for the fatalities caused by the destructive landslides in Wayanad. He stated in a statement on X that he was confident the continuous rescue efforts would save the many persons who are still trapped in the damaged area. In addition, he called Tamil Nadu their “brother state” and offered Kerala its logistical and human resources during this crisis.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, expressed his extreme worry about the deaths brought on by the landslides in Wayanad. He declared that search and rescue activities are being carried out urgently by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Shah added that in order to support the response operations, a second NDRF team is on its way. He sent his sympathies to the relatives of the victims in a message on X and prayed for the injured to recover quickly.
