Neeraj had his greatest throw of the season on Thursday, August 8, at Stade de France in France, but it was insufficient to win him a gold medal.
The PM asked about Neeraj’s included and praised his mother for her sportsmanship.
PM Modi contacted Neeraj following the athletics competition to congratulate him on winning the silver medal.
Neeraj was also questioned by the PM on a sore adductor that had been bothering him in the run-up to the quadrennial tournament in Paris. Neeraj had stated in June of this year that he wanted to follow medical advice in order to treat his ailment.
Neeraj also made history by being just the third Indian to win medals in two consecutive Olympics, behind wrestler Sushil Kumar and badminton player PV Sindhu.
Neeraj’s mother was also praised by the prime minister for her sportsmanship after her son was unable to retain his Olympic title in the javelin final. “With the silver, we are content. The winner of the gold is also similar to our son. We are pleased with his performance because he was hurt, according to Neeraj’s mother Saroj.
