A red warning has been triggered due to heavy rains in Uttara Kannada and surrounding districts of Karnataka.
New Delhi, 17th July 2024
Following intense rains, mudslides have washed portions of NH 75 away, causing traffic disruptions in Karnataka. The deputy divisional officer for Sakleshpura, Shruti, stated that nodal authorities have been tasked with overseeing the areas that are prone to landslides.
Shruti said in an interview with reporters, “We have held multiple sessions to plan for landslides and floods. We have designated nodal personnel at the taluka level to manage landslide-prone regions.”
“We have been encouraging people to relocate their valuables to safer locations,” she added. We have determined that impacted individuals can be moved to four or five flood relief sites.”

She went on to explain, mentioning the NH road construction: “Work is currently being done on the national highway that runs from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. We are collaborating with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) representatives at NH 75, in particular the areas where mudslides have occurred. Along with putting safety precautions in place, engineers are also examining the impacted locations.”
In order to cause the least amount of inconvenience for commuters, she further underlined that traffic diversions are being used where needed.
