Suryakumar Yadav Missed Out on the ODI Squad, While Riyan Parag Made It to Both the ODI and T20I Rosters
New Delhi, 19 july 2024
India’s Sri Lanka Tour Starts on July 27 with a Three-Match T20I Series and a Three-Match ODI Series; Major Changes in the Squad Include Suryakumar Yadav Taking Over as T20I Captain from Hardik Pandya.
Suryakumar Yadav Has Struggled in ODIs, as Evidenced by His Performance in Last Year’s 50-Over World Cup, Where He Averaged Just 25.76 in 37 Matches and has struggled against pace.

There are only six ODIs remaining until the Champions Trophy, and the selectors have decided to focus their attention on other options.
During a recent conversation, Gambhir refrained from directly endorsing Surya as the next captain.
However, he made it clear that he preferred a captain whose workload would not become a problem for the team’s performance. Agarkar, on the other hand, was very clear and direct in expressing his opinions on the matter.
Hardik, like Suryakumar, has been dropped from the ODI squad. India does not have a substitute for Hardik, but with the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, they are focusing on Axar Patel and Washington Sundar to fill the bowling all-rounder role.

Meanwhile, opener Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain for both ODIs and T20Is, making him a potential captain candidate. Ravindra Jadeja has already retired from Twenty20 Internationals and may potentially retire from One-Day Internationals soon. Axar Patel’s form has led to him losing his place on the team. With Sundar on the scene, Jadeja may be pushed to the background.
Riyan Parag has been added to both squads. He bats at number five in domestic cricket and has been steady in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Parag’s versatile role has allowed him a chance to play in the lower tier. Ravi Bishnoi was one of Gambhir’s first signings at LSG and might play a significant role in the near future.
