13th February, 2025
Emerging javelin thrower Sachin Yadav consolidated his great form with a record-breaking performance to win gold in the men’s javelin throw event at the National Games here on Wednesday.
The athlete from UP sent the spear to a massive 84.39m in his fifth attempt, bettering the previous meet record of 82.23m established by Haryana’s Rajendra Singh. With this performance, Sachin has managed to turn in results with incidents of over 80m on five consecutive occasions and become one of India’s most promising javelin throwers.

Rohit Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, with a throw of 80.47m, won the silver, while bronze went to Uttarakhand’s Vikas Sharma with a throw of 79.33m.

Sachin Yadav’s Uninterrupted Streak
The 25-year-old was the first of many in 80m at last year’s National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru, where he won with 80.04m. He has been consistently timing the following throws at elite levels:
Federation Cup – Bronze medal with a throw of 80.27m
Indian Grand Prix 3 in Bengaluru – Gold with a throw of 82.69m
All India Police Athletics Championships – Gold with a throw of 84.21m
Despite this glamorous appearance at the National Games, Sachin missed the Congress government qualification standard of 85.50m for his selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later this year. Expressing his resolve, he said: “My target was to achieve the World Athletics qualification mark but unfortunately I failed by a narrow margin. I will achieve it in my next competition, for sure!”
