The Harry Potter community is in mourning following the passing of beloved actor Michael Gambon, renowned for his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore in the final six films of the Harry Potter series. Gambon, aged 82, breathed his last on Thursday, as reported by Variety. He peacefully succumbed to pneumonia in the presence of his wife Anne and son Fergus at a hospital, according to a statement from the family shared by a publicist.

Upon learning of Gambon’s demise, Daniel Radcliffe, the lead actor from the original Harry Potter film series, penned a heartfelt tribute to his late co-star. In a statement provided to Variety, Daniel expressed his deep sorrow, remarking, “With the loss of Michael Gambon, the world just became considerably less fun.” He went on to praise Gambon’s extraordinary talent, emphasizing the actor’s unique ability to find joy in his craft.

Daniel Radcliffe reminisced, “He was silly, irreverent, and hilarious. He loved his job, but never seemed defined by it. He was an incredible storyteller and jokester, and his penchant for blending fact and fiction when speaking to journalists made him one of the most entertaining individuals to engage in a press junket.”

The actor considered himself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside Gambon, particularly during the filming of the sixth installment. He expressed his gratitude for the memorable and joyous moments they shared on set.

Jason Isaacs, who portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, also paid tribute to Gambon, describing him as “magnificent” in a heartfelt message on Twitter. He shared how Gambon’s acting in “The Singing Detective” had profoundly influenced his understanding of the craft, highlighting the complexity, vulnerability, and humanity that Gambon brought to his roles.

Additionally, Isaacs revealed the thrill of being part of the Harry Potter films and the connection he shared with Gambon, who embraced a fearless and playful spirit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Gambon had been married to mathematician Anne Miller since 1962 but had separated in 2002 following revelations about his relationship with Philippa Hart, 25 years his junior. He leaves behind three sons, one with Miller (Fergus) and two with Hart (Thomas and William).
