In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, cyber attacks are on the rise, prompting a renewed focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a beacon of hope for robust cybersecurity. To delve into this critical subject, the Management Education and Research Institute (MERI) organized its 20th National IT Seminar, APRENDEMOS-2025. The event brought together nearly 250 students, IT professionals, and academics to discuss vital aspects of technology and security.
The seminar commenced with traditional lighting of lamps, a Saraswati Vandan, and the national anthem, setting a solemn tone for the discussions ahead. In his opening remarks, MERI Vice President Professor Lalit Aggarwal emphasized AI’s transformative potential in reshaping cybersecurity and stressed that ensuring digital security is a shared responsibility in today’s connected world.
Keynote speaker Mr. Alok Vijayant, Managing Director of Cybertech Technologies, shed light on emerging cyber threats and illustrated how AI can serve as a formidable tool against them. Data Science Manager Mr. Jitendra Singh from Publicis Sapient elaborated on critical vulnerabilities and explained how encryption, access controls, and AI-driven threat detection can bolster digital defenses.
During the technical sessions, cybersecurity and insurance expert Mr. Suresh Kumar Sethi discussed prevalent cyber crimes such as phishing, ransomware, and software piracy, also highlighting how cyber insurance can mitigate potential losses. Meanwhile, Mr. Surya Pratap Singh, Director of the Hacking Club and CEO of Azovi Infotech Services, delivered a live demonstration revealing how cyber criminals exploit phishing, social media hacks, and malware to steal personal data. He provided practical advice to help safeguard against these threats.
A panel discussion moderated by Dr. Rakesh Khurana, MERI Advisor, saw an engaging exchange of views among cybersecurity experts. Panelists including Mr. Saugat Pramanik, a cloud specialist, SI Manoj Kumar, a cybersecurity officer, and Dr. Sherin Zafar, Associate Professor at Jamia Hamdard University, shared their insights. Dr. Zafar underscored the role of AI in advancing cybersecurity research, while SI Manoj Kumar stressed the importance of public awareness and vigilance to combat online fraud.
Additionally, an inter-college IT quiz for students allowed participants to test their technical acumen and gain new insights. The seminar concluded with an award and certificate ceremony honoring the contributions of all speakers, participants, and organizers for their efforts in promoting cybersecurity in the digital era.
