New Delhi, 19 July 2024
Magdy Eissa, a 45-year-old Egyptian man, recently etched his name in the annals of travel history by smashing the Guinness World Record for the fastest visit to all seven wonders of the world. In an extraordinary journey spanning continents and cultures, Eissa completed this awe-inspiring feat in an astonishingly brief span of time: 6 days, 11 hours, and 52 minutes. This remarkable achievement surpassed the previous record set by Englishman Jamie McDonald, edging ahead by a razor-thin margin of 4.5 hours.
Eissa’s ambitious adventure began amidst the ancient ramparts of the Great Wall of China, the first of the New Seven Wonders he visited. From there, his journey took him to the serene beauty of India’s Taj Mahal, followed by the mesmerizing rose-red city of Petra in Jordan. He then set foot in Rome to witness the majestic Colosseum, before crossing the Atlantic to embrace the outstretched arms of Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. The lost Incan city of Machu Picchu in Peru awaited his exploration next, and his whirlwind tour culminated at the imposing Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá in Mexico.
What makes Eissa’s record-breaking achievement even more remarkable is his adherence to strict travel guidelines. Determined to complete his childhood dream using only public transport, Eissa navigated a labyrinth of flights, buses, trains, subways, and on-foot dashes between transport hubs and each Wonder. Any disruption along the way threatened to derail his meticulously planned itinerary, potentially sending him back home in defeat.
Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of his journey, Eissa shared his exhilaration with Guinness World Records: “I had to navigate a complex web of flights, trains, buses, subways, and walking between transportation hubs and the Wonders.. One disruption could ruin the entire route and cause a return flight!”
Congratulations poured in on social media from lovers and followers all across the world as word of his incredible achievement spread. A playful remark made me laugh, saying, “Jetlag is afraid of this guy.” Eissa’s voyage did, in fact, catch people’s attention and serve as a reminder of the attraction and difficulty of traveling the world while attempting to break records.
