Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, succeeding Rahul Dravid after his tenure ended following the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Known for his passionate and disciplinarian approach to coaching, Gambhir served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 and 2023 before joining Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, a partnership that led to their IPL 2024 title win.
Following the announcement, LSG shared a spoof video of Gambhir’s first practice session as the Indian cricket team head coach. The video featured old footage from his time with the franchise and included a special appearance from fast bowler Mohsin Khan.Former India opener Gautam Gambhir’s nomination as the new head coach has been enthusiastically hailed by the Indian cricket fraternity, who believe he would do the country proud.
Less than two weeks after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended on a high with a T20 World Cup victory, India’s first global title in 11 years, Gambhir was appointed head coach, as widely expected.

The BCCI approached Gautam Gambhir after he guided KKR to an IPL title win as a mentor, ten years after his previous victory. Gambhir also captained KKR to IPL victories in 2012 and 2014.
The announcement was largely procedural, following National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman’s decision to decline the role.
His IPL franchise created an AI-generated image of Gambhir in a BCCI suit, gazing at a KKR jersey on the table alongside the IPL trophy.
The wall behind him featured photos of KKR’s wins in 2012 and 2014, while a TV screen announced his appointment as Gambhir stood beside a packed suitcase.
Team India jerseys could also be spotted hanging in the wardrobe.
KKR captioned the shot with an old quote from Gautam Gambhir: “There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team.” Team CEO Venky Mysore retweeted it, writing, “Very proud of you, Gambhir. Certainly, you will make India proud.”
