An Israeli strike on a school in eastern Gaza that housed displaced Palestinians resulted in over 100 deaths and several injuries, according to Reuters, which cited the official Palestinian news agency WAFA on Saturday. The Gaza government media office, which is controlled by Hamas, said that the strike happened when people were doing their prayers. “The Israeli strikes targeted the displaced people while performing Fajr (dawn) prayers, a matter that led to a rapid increase in the number of casualties,” the office stated in a statement.

Israel’s air forces “struck command and control center that served as a hideout for Hamas terrorists and commanders,” according to a statement released by the Israeli army. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) intentionally targeted Hamas-affiliated terrorists operating from the Al-Taba’een school in Daraj, Tuffah, which also serves as a command and control center. This location, adjacent to a mosque, is known to be a refuge for Gaza City residents, according to the warning. “Several measures were taken to minimize the risk to civilians before carrying out the strike.”These included intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance, and the employment of precision-guided weapons,” it continued. The most recent attacks followed a week earlier that saw attacks on four schools in Gaza. An Israeli strike on two Gaza City classrooms that were acting as shelters for displaced persons on August 4 resulted in 30 deaths and several injuries. 17 people were killed the day before in an Israeli attack on Gaza City’s Hamama School.

On August 1, an Israeli strike on Dalal al-Mughrabi School resulted in the deaths of fifteen persons. Since commencing a full-scale military onslaught against the Palestinian organization last October, Israel has been carrying out raids on buildings, including schools, throughout Gaza, claiming that there are “terrorists” inside the location using “Hamas command control centers.”

Over 40,000 Palestinians have died in the 10-month-long battle in Gaza. The attack by Hamas on October 7, 2018, resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 persons and the kidnapping of 250 more. There have been numerous rounds of negotiations for a truce in the Palestinian enclave along the shore, but little progress has been made thus far.
