Indian National Congress Unveils ‘Nyay Patra’ Manifesto Promising Socioeconomic Reforms

‘Nyay Patra,’ the much-awaited manifesto of the Indian National Congress, was unveiled during a function at the headquarters of the All India Congress Committee

New Delhi, 5 April 2024

The Indian National Congress launched its much-anticipated manifesto, titled ‘Nyay Patra’, at an event held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters. The event witnessed the presence of top party leaders including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as former leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Cantered on the theme of ‘justice’, the Congress manifesto introduced five core ‘pillars of justice’ and outlined 25 promises falling under them. Among the key announcements, the Congress pledged to conduct a comprehensive national socioeconomic and caste census, indicating a commitment to understanding and addressing societal disparities.

A new ‘right to apprenticeship legislation’ is also proposed in the congress manifesto that will provide one-year apprenticeships to all diploma holders and graduates under the age of 25. Along with it, the Congress has promised to eliminate the controversial “angel tax” and other perceived “exploitative” tax practices that hinder investment in emerging enterprises.

The Manifesto stated that if the party wins a majority in the general elections starting on April 19, it will enact a constitutional change raising the 50% cap on reservations for SC, ST, and OBC.
