Farah Khan shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mother Menaka Irani, highlighting her humor, resilience, and kindness.

On July 26, the news of Menaka Irani’s passing in Mumbai left many in the film industry mourning. Nearly two weeks later, on August 5, her daughter, filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, shared an emotional tribute on social media, giving a glimpse into the life of the woman who shaped her and her brother Sajid Khan’s sense of humor.
Known for her witty and humorous persona, Farah revealed that their mother was the true source of their comedic talent. She shared several cherished photographs, including a candid childhood photo from her birthday, where Menaka is seen in a saree, and a stunning black-and-white throwback from Menaka’s brief stint as an actor. Farah also posted two older pictures with her mother, including one from her 2004 wedding to filmmaker Shirish Kunder.

Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji visited Farah’s home after Menaka passed away as a sign of respect Farah remarked, “I don’t know if she can see the volume of sincere love and sympathies that have been expressed for her, but so many of her colleagues and people who worked in our house came saying how my mum had helped them with loans or sent them money.. never expecting it back.
” Farah was grateful for the overwhelming support. We appreciate everyone who messaged and is still texting, as well as everyone who came home to be with us during our time of sadness.”
“Despite the hard knocks she faced in her early life, my mum was a rare one who had no bitterness or envy towards anyone,” Farah said in her moving caption. My mum was exceptional, always avoiding the spotlight .
Everyone loved her and knew she was our source of humor—though, honestly, she was much funnier and sharper than Sajid and I combined.”
The mother-daughter duo expressed her gratitude to the medical staff and nurses at Nanavati Hospital for their exceptional care during her last days.
“It’s time to get back to work… that’s what she was always proud of,” Farah said as she ended her speech, expressing her perseverance. our labour! This lump that will always be in my heart doesn’t have time to mend.
I don’t want to miss her since she will always be a part of me, and we are grateful to the universe for giving us the chance to care for her in the same way that she did for us throughout her life. I’m done being sad now. thank you all; I wish to honour her every day. After their father’s death, Menaka Irani, sister of Honey and Daisy Irani, raised Farah and Sajid alone, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and humor.
