Anju Modi Launches Heritage-Inspired ‘Virasat’ Collection in Collaboration with Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers

3 May 2025, New Delhi

Renowned Indian fashion designer Anju Modi introduced her latest collection, ‘Virasat,’ at an exclusive event held at The Leela Palace in Chennai. The collection, whose name translates to ‘legacy,’ pays homage to South India’s rich textile traditions and cultural heritage.

Modi, who established her eponymous label in 1990, has long regarded Chennai as a pivotal center for her fabric sourcing and inspiration. “This was my base when I used to go to nearby villages, towns, and cities like Salem, Coimbatore, Kanchipuram, and Venkatagiri, and stay with weavers in their homes,” she shared. “The cloth they weave reflects their culture, temples, and even small details like the kolam they draw each morning. And I’ve kept these with me.”

The ‘Virasat’ collection is a collaborative effort with Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers, a Chennai-based legacy jewelry brand established in 1900. Known for their commitment to traditional craftsmanship and innovative designs, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers’ partnership with Modi underscores a shared dedication to preserving and celebrating Indian heritage.

The collaboration not only highlights the enduring appeal of South Indian textiles but also reinforces Chennai’s status as a hub for cultural and artistic excellence.

‘Virasat’ stands as a testament to Anju Modi’s deep-rooted connection with South India’s weaving communities and her ongoing efforts to bring their stories to the forefront of contemporary fashion.
