Elections 2024: PM Modi’s Multi-State Campaign Blitz; Pilibhit, Balaghat, and Chennai in Focus

Lok Sabha elections will be held to elect the 543 members in seven phases and the results will be announced on 4 June 2024.

New Delhi, 9 April 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the public in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, then will campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh’s Maoist-affected Balaghat; and then conduct a roadshow in South and Central Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Modi’s visit to Madhya Pradesh, his second within three days, highlights the party’s focus on the state’s electoral landscape. Notably, the BJP has introduced Bharti Pardhi as its candidate from Balaghat, replacing incumbent MP Dhal Singh Bisen.

The decision to field Jitin Prasada as the BJP candidate for Pilibhit, Uttar Prdesh marks a departure from the longstanding representation of Varun Gandhi and his mother, Maneka Gandhi, in the constituency since 1996. Additionally, the BJP’s nomination of only two Uttar Pradesh cabinet ministers, Prasada and Anoop Pradhan Valmiki, reflects a strategic selection process for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Prime Minister’s recent engagement in Jabalpur saw the launch of the BJP’s election campaign in Madhya Pradesh through a large-scale roadshow held on Sunday. With the elections slated to be conducted in two phases from April 19 to April 26 and May 7 to May 13 in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP aims to replicate its resounding victory in the last Lok Sabha elections, where it secured 28 out of 29 seats in the state.

In Central Chennai, the BJP picked Vinoj P Selvam to run against Dayanidhi Maran of the DMK. On Wednesday, Modi will attend two public gatherings in Tamil Nadu during his two-day visit.
