Dr. K.A. Paul Criticizes Congress and Minister Ponguleti Over Corruption Amid Telangana Crisis

New Delhi, 26 October 202

Today at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, Dr. K.A. Paul, President of the Global Peace Initiative, strongly condemned the Telangana administration for allegedly misusing a government helicopter during a severe flooding crisis. Reports indicate that the helicopter, which was meant for humanitarian relief, was instead diverted for political campaigning, as the region, particularly Khammam, suffers significant flood damage.

Dr. Paul expressed outrage that the helicopter was not utilized for rescue operations. “While the people of Khammam suffer, the helicopter was allegedly deployed for political purposes instead of relief missions,” he stated. He contrasted this with his own humanitarian efforts, recalling instances where he used his private aircraft to assist during crises like the 2004 tsunami.

Further complicating the situation, Dr. Paul raised concerns about allegations that large sums of cash, potentially exceeding one hundred crores, were transported via the helicopter to support political campaigning. He called for a thorough investigation, insisting that “public funds and resources should not be abused for political agendas.”

In a related legal matter, Dr. Paul is advocating for the disqualification of ten MLAs who defected from the BRS party to the Congress. He argued the case before the Telangana High Court, citing the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits such defections. Dr. Paul emphasized that these MLAs have betrayed their constituents’ trust and should face immediate disqualification.

Addressing the Congress party’s assertion that only the Speaker can handle disqualifications, Dr. Paul criticized what he described as the Speaker’s bias. He argued that the judiciary must intervene to uphold democratic standards, calling the situation “a mockery of democracy.”

Additionally, Dr. Paul targeted Telangana Congress Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who allegedly threatened opposition leaders ahead of Diwali. He questioned the minister’s rapid accumulation of wealth and called for an investigation into the origins of his assets, stating, “No one in public office should be immune from scrutiny.”

The Telangana High Court is set to hear the disqualification case on November 4, 2024. Dr. Paul underscored the judiciary’s duty to act promptly on issues of political corruption, advocating for reforms that prioritize justice over political interests.
