Digvijay Singh Defends Kamal Nath, PCC Chief

25 October 2023 , Bhopal Madhya Pradesh

In a recent statement, Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh revealed that his party colleague, Kamal Nath, has expressed a genuine interest in forging an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. However, there seems to be a lack of clarity regarding the opposition alliance.

The breakdown of negotiations between the two constituents of the ‘INDIA’ alliance on this matter can be attributed to differing seat allocation preferences. According to Singh, he had advised Kamal Nath to allocate four assembly seats to the SP, while the SP aimed to contest on half a dozen seats. This discrepancy in the number of seats became a point of contention, causing tensions between the two parties.

Singh also took a moment to commend SP President Akhilesh Yadav for his leadership qualities, while simultaneously expressing his disagreement with the choice of words used by Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath when referring to Yadav.

During a press interaction at his residence in Bhopal, Singh attempted to downplay the seat allocation dispute between the Congress and the SP. He acknowledged that friendly disputes can occur within alliance partners, but he was confident that the SP and Akhilesh would not align with the BJP, despite the disagreement on forming an alliance in Madhya Pradesh.

This disagreement between the Congress and the SP escalated when the SP President criticized the Congress leadership. In response, when questioned by the media about the alliance issue, Kamal Nath was reported to have said, “Leave Akhilesh Vakhilesh,” which added further complexity to the situation.
