Daler Mehndi’s iconic track “Na Na Na Na Re” is set to make a comeback in the film “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala,” starring Tripti Dimri and Rajkummar Rao. Originally released in 1996, the song became an instant sensation and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers. Reflecting on the revival of his superhit after 25 years, Mehndi expressed his excitement, recalling its earlier rendition with Amitabh Bachchan and its impact on his entry into Punjabi music.
The singer shared his joy about revisiting the song, saying, “The director wanted to see how I would look and feel in the song after so many years. Shooting in Rishikesh was memorable; despite the cold, starting at 6pm near the Ganges was invigorating. When he saw me, he was surprised that I looked as young as I did in the 90s.
Recreating “Na Na Na Na Re” for the film was a sentimental journey for Mehndi, who was delighted to preserve the song’s original essence. “Working with Rajkummar and Triptii and shooting all night was truly enjoyable. I am grateful that even after so many years, my voice hasn’t changed much. The vibe was just as it was back then; you couldn’t tell it was so many years later. The song and its visuals look amazing,” the 56-year-old shared.

Known for his distinctive voice and energetic performances, Mehndi credited the enduring popularity of the song to its original rendition. “I’m thrilled that the song, which became so legendary, is being rebooted after so many years. It’s a blessing from God that my voice has remained the same. It’s still a superhit and played at parties around the world. I’m glad that I only sang the original; it’s unfair when good original songs are suddenly rebooted with a different singer,” he emphasized.
Daler Mehndi, from a musical family, values originality in music. He welcomes reboots using his own work but opposes changes by new artists that diminish the original essence. Recently, his song was beloved in Shimla, highlighting its enduring emotional connection. He enjoys seeing fans dance to his hits and hopes more of his songs will be revitalized.
In conclusion, Mehndi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to revisit “Na Na Na Na Re,” ensuring that its timeless appeal remains intact while highlighting the importance of respecting original musical creations.
