Coldplay’s legendary singer, Chris Martin, and his girlfriend, actress Dakota Johnson, were in Prayagraj on January 27, to participate in the holy karmas of the Maha Kumbh Mela. Clad in bright saffron, the couple seemed to have taken to the spiritual road with the other pilgrims at Triveni Sangam, where the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet.
This tandem of Chris and Dakota landed in India on January 16 as a part of the Coldplay Music of the Spheres tour that had them performing in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The last leg of the Indian tour culminated in an electrifying concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on January 26, leaving behind a euphoric crowd. However, the very next week, they went on to experience the divine essence of the country, which is so deeply spiritual.
Bharat Chaudhary, who shared a video of a rare Kumbh Mela moment, relates how he and his partner were walking to go swimming in the river when they noticed Dakota and Chris, who were also arriving to take the holy dip. The interesting video shows Chris in black shorts, while Dakota is wearing a kurta with matching trousers. Bharat’s partner waved to Chris, who returned the gesture with the Indian greeting. It appears that Chris closed his eyes and prayed solemnly.

Expressing his admiration, one fan remarked, “Wow, nice, he is embracing culture & rituals being a British & trying traditions without any hesitation.” “When you can’t go Coldplay, Coldplay comes to you!!” claimed another commentator. One person remarked, “One of the best reels I have seen this year.” Chris Martin and Dakota at Kumbh?! A crossover we didn’t know could happen but definitely needed. Chris Martin paid a heartfelt tribute to India during the Ahmedabad concert by singing patriotic tracks such as Vande Mataram and Maa Tujhhe Salaam. The moment brought out the best of the audience, returning the favor with thunderous cheers and applause. He concluded the entire concert by saluting Mother India and wishing everybody a happy Republic Day
