Brian Lara picked a former cricketer who he believes was more talented than Sachin Tendulkar and even himself. It’s Carl Hooper, his former captain.
“Carl was without a doubt among the greatest players I’ve ever seen.” In Lara: The England Chronicles, Lara stated, “I would say that not even Tendulkar and I would come close to that talent.” A book extract has been made available on ESPNcricinfo.
“He was incredibly gifted, yet he was unaware of his own brilliance. People would question why he didn’t fully express his talents, and the truth is that there isn’t a definitive answer,” said Lara.
Carl Hooper participated in 102 Test matches from 1987 to 2002, amassing 5,762 runs with an average of 36.46. He recorded 13 centuries and 27 half-centuries. With the ball, he took 114 wickets, with his best performance being five for 26.
