New Delhi, 24 july 2024

Bad Newz’s box office performance in India has been as follows: it earned ₹8.3 crore on day one, ₹10.25 crore on day two, ₹11.15 crore on day three, and ₹3.5 crore on day four. Early estimates for day five, Tuesday, indicate the film collected ₹3.75 crore nett in India. As of now, the film has accumulated ₹36.95 crore in India. Bad Newz achieved a Hindi occupancy rate of 13.77% on Tuesday.

Bad Newsz tackles longstanding preconceptions that one would have hoped had altered by now, such as Punjabis’ penchant for rajma chawal, the image of mama’s sons as neglecting husbands, and women putting jobs ahead of marriage. While comedy isn’t the film’s strong suit, it does effectively incorporate meta jokes that stand
out.

References like Dimri being dubbed as ‘Bhabhi 2’ and hailed as ‘National Crush,’ Gurbir cautioning Akhil against emulating Vicky Sandhu from Manmarziyaan, and Kaushal preventing Virk from discarding a photo of Katrina Kaif with the quip, “Iske liye toh tujhe meri laash se guzarna hoga” (you’ll have to pass over my dead body)—these moments are seamlessly woven into the script.

Bad Newz, directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra, Apoorva Mehta, and Karan Johar, features a stellar cast including Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, Ammy Virk, and Neha Dhupia. It also includes cameos by Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma.

The film’s plot takes a comedic departure from traditional rom-com themes, delving into the chaotic scenario of heteropaternal superfecundation. The storyline centers on a woman (portrayed by Triptii Dimri) who unexpectedly conceives twins fathered by two different men, played by Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk. Drawing parallels to the 2019 blockbuster Good Newwz, featuring Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh, Bad Newz offers a refreshing and entertaining exploration of unconventional family dynamics.
