Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Releases MVA’s ‘Maharashtra Nama’ Manifesto, Promises Five Key Welfare Guarantees
Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge unveiled the manifesto for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in a high-profile event in Mumbai, highlighting a series of ambitious welfare promises for Maharashtra. The MVA, a coalition of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), presented what they termed the “five guarantees” aimed at driving socio-economic progress across the state. The MVA’s manifesto release intensifies the competition with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which had launched its own manifesto earlier, promising 25 key initiatives if reelected. The upcoming elections, scheduled for November 20, will determine the future governance of Maharashtra’s 288-seat Assembly, with results expected on November 23.
Key Promises in the MVA Manifesto
1) One major proposal is the Mahalaxmi scheme, which promises a monthly financial aid of Rs 3,000 for eligible women, along with free bus travel. 2) For the state’s farmers, the MVA plans to offer Rs 50,000 to those who repay their loans on time. This measure aims to alleviate farmers’ debt burdens while encouraging a culture of timely repayments, providing much-needed relief in the agricultural sector.
3) The MVA also proposes to conduct a caste-based census and lift the 50% cap on reservations, aiming to enhance representation and opportunities for underprivileged communities.
4) To support job-seeking youth, the MVA manifesto includes an Rs 4,000 monthly stipend. This financial aid is designed to assist young people as they prepare for employment, addressing youth unemployment and providing an economic boost for job seekers.
5) Health coverage is another priority in the manifesto, with the MVA planning an Rs 25 lakh health insurance scheme, modelled after a successful initiative in Rajasthan. Coupled with a promise of free medicines, this measure aims to improve healthcare access and reduce medical expenses for Maharashtra’s residents.
